Green Guardians – Whitemoor Nature Reserve

Whitemoor Nature Reserve is a richly varied site centred around a stretch of the River Leen. The reserve supports a diverse mosaic of habitats including coarse grassland, bramble scrub, terrestrial reedbed, mixed broadleaved woodland, open-grown willows, a seeded wildflower area, two wildlife ponds, and a marsh dominated by bulrush (Typha latifolia) with willow scrub margins. This mixture of wetland, woodland, and meadow habitats makes Whitemoor an important refuge for wildlife within the city.
Join our Park Ranger and fellow Nottingham Green Guardians to help care for this ecologically rich reserve and support its continued development.
What to expect: volunteers will take part in ranger-led conservation and habitat management tasks suited to this mixed wetland and woodland environment. Activities may include scrub management, vegetation control, pond and marsh maintenance, wildflower area care, path maintenance, litter picking, and seasonal habitat improvement work. All activities are guided and suitable for all abilities.
We provide: tools, spare PPE, and light refreshments. Please wear sturdy footwear and cover arms and legs to protect against brambles and other spiky or stinging plants. Remember to bring a drink to stay hydrated.
Time: 10am (sessions last approximately 2–3 hours)
Meet at: the access point to the River Leen Greenway on Wilkinson Street.
W3W Location: ///stack.wanted.moon
Parking: is available in a lay-by on Wilkinson Street or in the Park and Ride site, and the site is also accessible by tram.
