Green Guardians – Springfield Corner

Springfield Corner is a hidden gem Wildlife Site, just off Moor Bridge Tram stop. The site, although small, has an excellent habitat variation; the river Lean runs through, it has a meadow and scrub land, and woodlands. Although small, it still requires a bit of maintenance to ensure those habitats stay as varied as they are, as without management, everything would turn to woodlands, which is nice, but doesn’t support as many wildlife species and flora.

What to expect: cutting the meadow, maintaining the gathering area, clearing tree saplings, trimming shrubs, litter picking, maintaining boundaries and pathways. occasionally there will be opportunities for new planting, and installing nest boxes.

We provide: tools, spare PPE, and light refreshments. Please wear sturdy footwear and cover arms and legs to protect against brambles and other spiky or stinging plants. Remember to bring a drink to stay hydrated.

Time: 10am (sessions last approximately 2–3 hours)
