Green Guardians – Colwick Wood

March 5 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Colwick Woods is one of Nottingham’s last remaining areas of ancient woodland, with a history stretching back hundreds of years. Once part of a much larger wooded landscape linked to Colwick Hall, the woods still retain the character of traditional English woodland, with mature oak and ash trees, seasonal bluebells, and winding paths that have been walked for generations.

Today, Colwick Woods provides an important refuge for wildlife, supporting woodland birds, bats, invertebrates, and a rich understory of native plants. Its ancient soils and long continuity of tree cover make it especially valuable for biodiversity within the city.

Join our Ranger and fellow Nottingham Green Guardians to help care for this historic woodland and protect its future.

What to expect: volunteers will take part in ranger-led woodland conservation tasks designed to support the health of this ancient habitat. Activities may include scrub management, path maintenance, invasive species control, boundary work, habitat creation, and seasonal woodland management. All activities are guided and suitable for all abilities.

We provide: tools, spare PPE, and refreshments. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, and bring a drink to stay hydrated.
Time: 10am (sessions last approximately 2–3 hours)

W3W Location: ///direct.hangs.atomic– we will be meeting at Colwick Road gate (near the train tracks) – Please note that this entrance is on an incline and includes steps, which may present accessibility challenges for some participants.
